Seller Guide
How selling works around hereGood listings sell
- Lead with clear photos in daylight. A bird on grass photographs better than a bird in a dark coop.
- Name the breed, age, and sex right in the title: "Cream Legbar pullets, 8 weeks" finds its buyer.
- Price it. "Inquire" listings get half the responses of priced ones.
- Say where pickup happens (city or county is plenty; never post your street address).
Meeting buyers
- Cash at pickup is the norm. Digital payment between the two of you is your call.
- Meet at the gate or a public spot. Keep it outside your home.
- Let buyers look the birds over. Honest sellers get repeat buyers and referrals.
Health & the law
- Never sell birds showing illness. Isolate new or returning birds from your flock for 30 days.
- Most states don't require NPIP certification for local sales. It still builds trust, so add your number on your account page for a badge.
- Selling across state lines or shipping brings testing and paperwork requirements in most states. Know your state ag department's rules before you agree to it.
- Some cities restrict poultry ownership. That's the buyer's homework, and a reminder from you is welcome.
Moving birds safely
- Ventilated crates or boxes, one size up from cramped. Never a closed trunk in summer.
- Move birds early morning or evening in hot weather.
- Hatching eggs ride pointed-end down, padded, at cellar temperature. Keep them out of the refrigerator.
Post your listing. It takes about a minute.
