Wyandotte

Also known as: Silver Laced Wyandotte, Gold Laced Wyandotte, Columbian Wyandotte, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte

American breed from the 1870s with a rose comb and round, well-feathered body. The Silver Laced came first, and many laced and solid varieties followed. It lays well, and the carcass is worth dressing out.

Keeper's notes

The rose comb is nearly frostbite-proof, which puts this breed near the top for cold, wet winters. Dense fluff can hide mites, so check under the tail every so often.

From the 1910 Standard of Perfection
Class: American
Standard weights: cock 8.5 lbs, hen 6.5 lbs, cockerel 7.5 lbs, pullet 5.5 lbs

“In shape, Wyandottes have a type peculiarly their own. It is emphatically a bird of curves.”

Disqualifications: Silver variety: ear-lobes more than one-quarter positive enamel white; shanks other than yellow.
