Sultan
Ornamental breed kept in the gardens of Ottoman sultans, carrying nearly every fancy trait at once: crest, beard, muffs, vulture hocks, feathered feet, five toes, and a V-comb. The standard variety is pure white. It produces poorly, and people keep the bird for its beauty.
All that feathering ruins fast in mud, so they need covered, dry runs through a wet season. Gentle birds, easily bullied. House them with other docile ornamentals.
“They have for their most attractive characteristics the novel features of a full crest, muff and beard, with vulture-hocks and profuse shank and toe feathering.”
Disqualifications: Beak other than white or pale flesh color; large red face; absence of beard; absence of vulture-hocks; shanks not feathered down outer sides.
