Polish
Crested ornamental breed with a full pom-pom of feathers over a skull knob, despite the name likely Dutch in development. Varieties include White Crested Black, Golden, Silver, and Buff Laced, plus bearded forms. Decent white-egg layer for an ornamental.
The crest blocks vision and soaks up rain, so in wet climates give them covered runs and trim or band crests as needed. Crested skulls are vulnerable; avoid housing with pecking-prone breeds.
“The male, to be a typical specimen, must be of medium size, with a large, flowing, well-balanced crest, rising well in front so as not to obstruct the sight.”
Disqualifications: White-Crested Black variety: white in any part of plumage extending over half an inch, except in crest; shanks other than blue or dark leaden-blue, except the natural fading from age.
