Breed guide

Norwegian Jaerhon

Also known as: Jaerhons, Jaerhone

Norway's only native chicken breed, a small autosexing layer from the Jaeren district. Chicks are sexable at hatch by down markings. Efficient converters that lay a large white egg for their size.

Keeper's notes

Cold-hardy and thrifty on forage. Light birds, and flighty enough to clear most fences, so cover the run or clip wings.
