New Hampshire
Selected out of Rhode Island Red stock in the early 1900s for fast growth and early maturity, with quick feathering and a lighter chestnut color. It anchored the early broiler industry and still earns its keep on a homestead.
Hardy in most climates, wet winters included. They shove at the feeder, so set out several feeding stations in a mixed flock.
