Kraienkoppe

Also known as: Twentse, Twents Hoen

A border breed from the Twente district where the Netherlands meets Germany, built on game and Malay blood. The small walnut comb sits low over a fierce eye. Hens keep laying through winter cold that stops other light breeds.

Keeper's notes

Nearly self-sufficient on range and quick to spot a hawk. The tight comb takes hard frost without damage. Roosters carry game temper toward each other, so run one per flock. Hens make attentive mothers.
