Java

Also known as: Black Java, Mottled Java

The second-oldest American breed, and a foundation under both the Jersey Giant and the Plymouth Rock. Black and Mottled varieties survive; the breed is critically rare. The birds grow slowly and look after themselves on a farm.

Keeper's notes
