Iowa Blue
Iowa farm breed from the early 1900s. The plumage is silvery-penciled, so the name misleads people. Local legend credits a White Leghorn hen and a pheasant, a cross that biology rules out. The breed came close to disappearing, and a dedicated breed club keeps it going.
Rugged Midwest farm birds that handle cold and range hard. The roosters watch for predators better than most. Otherwise, care for them like any dual-purpose breed.
