Houdan
Old French table breed with a crest, beard, five toes, and mottled black-and-white plumage. It once supplied the Paris meat market. These days the breed is rare, held by conservation breeders and exhibitors.
Keep the crest dry in rainy weather the way you would with any crested breed, and check it for lice. They are mild-mannered and take confinement without fuss.
“Houdans resemble the Dorkings in shape and size; the crest of the Houdan is one of the most important sections; it should be round and not divided at the top.”
Disqualifications: Absence of crest or beard; feathers other than black or white in any part of plumage.
