Crevecoeur
One of France's oldest breeds, out of the Norman village of Crevecoeur-en-Auge, solid black with a full crest and V-comb. It was a premier Paris table fowl. The breed is critically rare now.
Most of the work is the crest. Keep it dry and free of mites, which in rainy climates means a covered run. They are calm birds and do well in confinement.
“Head: Large, with a pronounced protuberance on top of skull; comb, leaf, like the letter V in shape, resting against front of crest.”
Disqualifications: Absence of crest or beard; pure white in any part of plumage extending over half an inch, or two or more feathers tipped or edged with positive white, except in crest; shanks other than black or dark lead color.
