Cornish Cross
A production cross with no breed standard. Chicks hatched from these birds will vary from their parents.
The modern commercial broiler hybrid, a Cornish x White Rock derived cross that reaches 5-6 lb live weight in 6-8 weeks. Breeders selected it for feed conversion and breast yield. Keep one past butcher age and it develops leg and heart problems.
Process on schedule at 6-9 weeks. After week two, restrict feed, 12 hours on and 12 off. Keep them cool. In a wet spring, raise them on dry litter or move the tractor every day, because they will sit right down in the mud.
