Chantecler

Also known as: White Chantecler, Partridge Chantecler

Canada's first chicken breed, created by Brother Wilfrid Chatelain at a Quebec monastery for brutal winters. Tiny cushion comb and minimal wattles nearly eliminate frostbite. Lays through winter better than most heritage breeds.

Keeper's notes

The breed was built for Canadian cold, so hard winters ask nothing of it. Summer heat is the harder season for a Chantecler. Give them shade.
