Andalusian
Spanish Mediterranean layer known for its slate-blue laced plumage. Blue does not breed true; matings yield blue, black, and splash offspring in the classic ratios. Textbooks use the breed to explain incomplete dominance.
Large single combs frostbite in hard cold. Through a mild maritime winter, a dry coop is enough. They fly strong, so run them tall or covered.
“The typical Andalusian of the Standard must be pre-eminently a symmetrical, graceful, compact fowl, of medium size, without coarseness of structure or clumsiness of carriage.”
Disqualifications: Red in ear-lobes covering one-half or more of the surface; red or positive white in color of plumage; shanks other than blue or slaty-blue, except the natural fading from age.
